WATERMELONS (Monday, May 31): All right. Hey, before…before you head out to your Memorial Day picnics you better read this. If it’s Memorial Day, it’s time for Watermelon. For your picnic, maybe you’ll have one of those big 20 pound seeded watermelons or maybe one of the 15-16 pound seedless, or maybe even one of the personal size Watermelons. Whatever Watermelon you have, please, never in a million years should you get your knife out before you wash that watermelon. Can I give you a hint? Maybe you did not know this.

SPRING SWEET ONIONS (Monday, May 24): Hey, the National Geographic Finals are this week in Washington, D.C., so I thought it’d be a little fun – let’s have a geography lesson. Let’s see - What doesWalla Walla, Vidalia, Maui, and Imperial Valley all have in common? They all grow onions. They all grow spring sweet onions. In fact, this is spring sweet onion time and we’re starting to see some beautiful Vidalia onions, Texas 1015Y and Imperial Sweets. Maui Onions are generally available year-round.

SPRING FANTASIA SALAD PART I (Monday, May 10): We are making one of my favorite Spring salads. I call it a Spring Fantasia salad and it starts with cantaloupe. Of course you always wash a cantaloupe before you cut it. Remember that the netting on the Cantaloupe, all of those little nooks and crannies, could possibly hold some dirt or bacteria. Once you wash it, just simply cut it in half along the equator…or the midriff of the Cantaloupe. Next, simply scoop the seeds out. Very simple so far, huh? Now we’re just going to make melon balls.

AVOCADOS (Monday, May 3):  Cinco de Mayo this week.  That means you need the best avocado for the best guacamole, and of course the best avocado is going to be your Hass avocado.   Here they are.  Uh oh.  I’ve got a couple green ones.  What in the world am I going to do?  By the way, the Hass avocado is the only avocado variety that starts green and then as it ripens it turns this beautiful dark color.  So what are we going to do with these green ones?  Well, let me just go down h
