NAVEL ORANGES (Monday, August 2): Hey it’s Australia Picnic Day today. That’s right so we’re heading to New South Wales, Australia, and if you actually go to southeastern Australia that is the citrus belt of Australia. They have irrigation, and you go down there, and there are orange trees and tangelo trees. So let’s talk about their oranges. They’re navel oranges. That’s right. They’re just now coming into the supermarket, beautiful navel oranges from the land down under so it’s like a picnic day here as well.

MICK JAGGER AND APPLES (Monday, July 26): Hey, Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones turns sixty-seven years old this week, and you know before every concert Mick Jagger eats one apple. That’s right, one apple before every concert, and there is actually a reason why. It’s not just because he likes apples…there’s a reason why.

GRILLING PINEAPPLE (Monday, July 19): We are going a-grilling and one of the things that I love to put on the grill - absolutely gorgeous, beautiful pineapple. So what you can easily do, simply cut off the top and bottom, what I call the north pole and the south pole. Then simply cut off the rind. You can easily find cool little corers at the store. They make coring a Pineapple a snap. Now simply slice the Pineapple into ½” thick rings. Oh, yeah! You will be the Lord of the Pineapple Rings at your next grill party.

RINSING SALAD (Monday, July 12): Okay, how many of you rinse your summer salads in tap water? With my handy dandy probe thermometer…I can test the temperature of the tap water. It’s seventy degrees. Folks, that is way too warm to rinse off your salad greens. So here’s what I want you to do with your salads. You’re going to get your salad into the colander and then what you will go over to the freezer, get some ice. Ice goes right on the lettuce in the colander. Now you are ready to rinse your salad with water.

FRENCH SHALLOTS (Monday, July 5): Hey, the 97th annual Tour de France began over the weekend…lasts till July 25th. So I thought I would bring something in totally French. No, not the bikini, although that started on this day too in Paris, but oo la la! Look down here, something you have probably have walked by a hundred times in the onion section of your produce department. So what is that little brown thing? This is called a shallot or a French shallot. This is actually a French hybrid shallot. You know how I could tell? Because it’s quite large.
